Cara's interview with Dev

Dev :How did you first become interested in Middle Eastern dance?

Cara : For me it was purely chance. A friend wanted to try, but was too scared to go to a class by herself. I tagged along to give her some moral support, and, well, the rest is history! I was hooked very quickly, and two years later I am dancing every week and performing regularly.

Dev :Who was and/or is your inspiration for dance?

Cara :My greatest inspiration is Usha, my dance instuctor/troupe leader. She is so supportive, positive and encouraging to the girls who dance with her that I would find it difficult not to be inspired. I have also been fortunate enough to attend workshops with Queensland ladies such as Eleni and Lorelle, and others such as Jrisi. Learning from and watching these lovely dancers is always an inspiration to go further and learn more.

Dev : What do you enjoy most about Middle Eastern dancing?

Cara : There are myriad reasons for my enjoyment of middle eastern dancing, but if I was forced to name one, I would have to say the positive acceptance of all types. I cant think of any other dance form that would embrace such a huge variety in not only style, but also dancers themselves. Only at a MED display could you see every type from little girls of six or seven (even younger!) to ladies into their sixties and seventies and beyond, all body shapes, all walks of life. It really is a celebration of expression in general and especially the female form in all its varieties!

Dev : Are you considering Middle Eastern dance as a career?

Cara : I enjoy dancing too much to have it as a career! It is my sanity/down/away time from my profession, and as that is very valuable to me. It doesn't make me any less passionate about it though.......
